'ROADSTER' PROJECT – IN BRIEF

The
1978 Seville, a world success for Cadillac at the time,
was used as a starting
point. Its reliability and surprisingly
good
handling were ideal for a 30s-style sporting Roadster.
Book
- Sidetracked

Dismantled,
dismembered and modified to suit the new style, HLN 827V has a space-frame fitted to the
front, its
original roof is cut-and-kinked twice, and the resulting structure strengthened
throughout where necessary.
Book
- Sidetracked

The rear doors
are altered and
re-hung as forward-opening, the front half-chassis is modified and re-attached,
the
outer-body framework fixed to the structure and the radiator-cowl, stay-bars and wing-supports fitted.
Book

The
aluminium body panels and wings are shaped to fit and then test assembled, the
fixed panels around the
cab are permanently attached and painted, the radiator cowl
is secured and the 'soft top' roof material fitted.
Book

A re-modelled engine compartment is
assembled and tested, the bonnet and wings are fitted and the interior
fittings, including the original front seats and dashboard, are adapted and modified to
fit the narrowed cab.

After 6,000 hours, HLN 827V
returned to the road still legally
registered as a 1978 Seville. 10,000 miles later and with much
volunteered help, the one-of-a-kind is ready
for everyday use.
