A final twist to such a co-incidental tale is that the only entrant in the “Guess the Miles, Guess the Speed” competition with the name ‘Bennett’ – quite unrelated to Julian – ended up the winner. Moreover, the co-ordinator for the Veteran Car Club, having several years earlier been the proud owner herself of a 1903 Cadillac, was also a ‘Bennett’, and no relation either to Julian or the competition winner. If they had all been ‘Smith’ (no offence), it might be a bit more understandable.
    I can only assume these are just a couple more pointers to the fact that truth really is so very much stranger than fiction – and no doubt always will be!
